Skin Peels

Written by Dr Jill Tomlinson on .

We offer chemical skin peels that are formulated for skin subjected to harsh Australian conditions and tailored for your individual skin type. Pre-treatment with preparatory products at home can assist in preparing your skin for the peels to allow you to obtain the safest and best results. The Synergie Skin Pre-treatment Kit can be obtained from our reception or after consultation and skin analysis with our registered nurses.

At the time of your peel appointments we will thoroughly clean your face so that it is free of makeup and oils, so that the peel can work effectively. We apply products including sun block after the peel. It is imperative that you use full sun protection after your peels, so plan your activities after your peel in a way that allows you to do this - don't plan a peel the day before you spend a day at the beach!

Layered Peels

Layering peels provides a tailored, customised approach according to your individual needs. The layers are:

  • Salicylic layer (5%, 10%, 20%, 30%). This lipophilic BHA application provides deep exfoliation and thorough cleansing of the follicle. This crucial initial step allows the subsequent layers to be optimised.
  • Lactic layer (20%, 30%, 40%, 60%). This second hydrophilic AHA layer thoroughly exfoliates the outer layer to effectively improve fine lines, uneven skin tone, sun damaged skin and age spots.
  • Serum: application of a serum specifically suited to your needs.

Suggested frequency

  • one treatment every 14 days with four to six treatments recommended in total

Please note that we recommend pre-treatment for 14 days prior to commencing a series of layered peel treatments.
Cost: $95
Duration: 60 minutes for your first peel (this includes your 30 minute consultation and skin analysis with the registered nurse who is administering your peel), 30 minutes for subsequent peels

The actives work to renew, desquamate and hydrate the skin.

Mini Peels

  • Sapphire Peel - a luxurious light physical and chemical exfoliation for blocked pores
  • Extraction Peel - an excellent treatment for comedogenic skin that addresses blackheads and whiteheads
  • L-ascorbic Micropeel - a light chemical peel that combines the benefits of L-ascorbic acid crystal with the exfoliating qualities of Lactic, Salicylic and Malic Acid. Recommended for congested, sun damaged and dull skin.

Lactic Acid Peels

Lactic acid peels are an effective yet gentle alternative to traditional glycolic acid peels. Lactic acid is a highly effective chemical exfoliant and hydrating agent. Lactic acid is the only AHA that naturally occurs in the skin so there are receptor sites specifically designed to recognise and effectively utilise this form of AHA. The larger molecule size makes it the least irritating AHA so it is more suitable for hyper-reactive skin types. We stock 20%, 30%, 40% and 60% strength lactic acid peels.

Jessner Power Peel with Kojic Acid

A powerful medium depth peel with the added super antioxidant alpha lipoic acid. Alpha-lipoic acid has been referred to as a "universal antioxidant" because it is soluble in both water and oil, which permits its entrance to all parts of the cell. Due to this quality it is believed that alpha-lipoic acid can provide the greatest protection against damaging free radicals when compared with other antioxidants. Alpha-lipoic acid diminishes fine lines, gives skin a healthy glow and boosts levels of other antioxidants, such as vitamin C. The formulation used at our practice also includes added Kojic Acid, a powerful tyrosinase inhibitor that acts to address hyperpigmentation and sun damage.

Indications

  • sun damaged skin
  • oily acneic skin types
  • cystic acne
  • combination skin types prone to breakouts
  • ageing skin
  • fine lines

Expect

  • The peel may sting while it is on the skin which is a normal response for this Power Peel.
  • You may have redness or a "tan" discolouration to the skin for several days during the shedding phase.
  • Flaking and peeling may occur for 3-4 days and is typically finished within 5-7 days.

Recommended treatment protocol

  • One peel every four to six weeks, with six peels in total.

Please note that we recommend pre-treatment for 14 days prior to commencing a series of Jessner Power Peel treatments. You must not apply water or water based products to the skin for 10 hours after a Jessner Power Peel.
