The Victorian Virtual Hand Fracture Service provides an expert surgeon’s assessment of your hand fracture online via our virtual clinic at melbhandsurg.doxy.me .
This service is a rapid-access virtual private clinic for adults and children aged 10 and over with recent hand fractures, including fingers, thumbs, metacarpals, and carpal bones.
While there are limitations to virtual assessment—including that ligament injuries or subtle rotational deformities not visible on an X-ray may be missed—we recognise that timely in-person assessment by a hand surgeon can be difficult to access. A virtual assessment offers improved accessibility and early specialist input.
We aim to triage and assess your injury and direct you to the right care promptly:
We assess your hand fracture and advise you:
In some circumstances, further imaging or an in-person assessment may be recommended.
Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA)
For patients with an eligible DVA Gold or White Card, Dr Jill Tomlinson will bill the Department of Veterans’ Affairs directly for:
Please ensure your DVA details are provided accurately when completing this form.
Thank you for considering Melbourne Hand Surgery for your care. Please be aware that Dr Jill Tomlinson is a private specialist surgeon, and consultation and surgical fees are set independently of WorkCover and TAC scheduled fee arrangements.
As a result:
We encourage all WorkCover and TAC patients to carefully consider these private fee arrangements before proceeding. If you are seeking a provider who offers fee structures entirely within WorkCover or TAC schedules, or if these private payment arrangements are not suitable for you, you may wish to seek care with an alternative provider whose billing arrangements better meet your needs.
We are committed to transparent communication regarding costs so that you can make an informed decision about your treatment.
NIB Health Insurance Notice
Dr Jill Tomlinson does not participate in nib Medigap arrangements (including “No Gap” or “Known Gap” schemes).
It is our understanding that if you are insured with nib or a nib-related fund, you will receive the standard Medicare rebate only for in-hospital surgical services.
It is our understanding that nib will not provide any additional rebate above the Medicare amount for procedures performed by Dr Tomlinson.
If you have any questions about your level of cover or out-of-pocket costs, we recommend contacting your insurer directly prior to your procedure.
